ABOUT TORONTO
An all-around good bookstore, the Annex Book City (501 Bloor St. W) offers more than 10,000 titles and targets academics and literary readers with a large inventory of cultural studies, history, literary fiction, and poetry. Moog Audio-Slinky Music (442 Queen St. W.) specializes in "music to move your feet to." Slinky Music avoids the top-40 charts in favor of carefully chosen hip-hop, soul, jazz, reggae, rock, electronica, and world music.
With its collection of obscure CDs, Rotate This (620 Queen St. W.) is the only choice for indie rockers. Doug Miller Books (518 Mount Pleasant Rd.), an eclectic shop that claims a specialty in children's books and signed vintage collectibles--such as a first edition Thomas Hardy--offers a bit of everything, including a wide selection of literary fiction (some for $1.00) and a strong selection of equally discounted mysteries.
