Kicking off the autumn book season, the Word on the Street Book and Magazine Festival packs Queen's Park on the last Sunday of September with fun for all ages. Book-lovers can sift through the marketplace of all things literary and get their first glimpse at the spread of new Canadian books before they hit the best-seller lists. There are performances throughout the day from 170 Canadian authors, poets, and storytellers.

An area called KidStreet caters exclusively to kids and their parents, and several venues have programming for children under 12, including the TVOKids stage, where kids can sing along with the crowd. Aspiring writers at Word on the Street can even attend an array of workshops. The largest book and magazine festival in the country, Word on the Street is so popular that it has spread to Vancouver, Halifax, Calgary and Ontario. Best of all, the festival is free to the public.
