ABOUT TORONTO
Near the end of September, the music and art, dance and fashion, and last, but certainly not least, cuisine of the Caribbean cultures erupt in Toronto for a full-on, one-week celebration. Highlights include lively costumes, craft and dance demonstrations, the Children's Steel Drum Band, and a real Caribbean wedding. For those hungry for spicy Jamaican jerk chicken, Puerto Rican beans and rice, sweet fried plantains, or to try something new, Caribbean Week offers free tastings of traditional dishes, a variety of cooking classes taught by world-famous chefs, and Caribbean-inspired dishes at many participating restaurants.
Many of the festival's events take place in Downtown West's Yonge-Dundas Square and at the Toronto International Center as part of the Toronto Travel Show. The week is capped off with a gala event at the elegant Liberty Grand.
