ABOUT TORONTO
Since its inception in 1995, the Toronto Marathon, the city's oldest and largest marathon, has generated over $15 million for local charitable organizations including the Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, Hemophilia, Multiple Sclerosis, Toronto Foundation for Student Success, ICA Canada, and the Canadian Athletes Now Fund. The 2007 event -- which includes a half marathon, 5K race, and relay in addition to the full marathon -- is expected to attract over 10,000 participants from more than 30 countries.
The course begins in Mel Lastman Square in the center of Toronto, loops around the city, and ends at Queens Park. "Entertainment stations" feature rock bands, bagpipers, Japanese drummers, DJs, buskers, cheerleaders, school bands, cadet bands, boom boxes, and other forms of merriment to help keep the marathoners in motion.
