The Canadian Aboriginal Festival, a highlight of Canadian culture, takes place every year in the Rogers Centre. The central event is the Toronto Pow Wow, where more than 1,000 dancers come to demonstrate their dances. Beginning on Friday evening, the first dancers enter the circle; continuing on Saturday and Sunday, different Aboriginal dance troupes dance and drum. At the finale, all 1,000-plus dancers come together and form a circle. Traditionally, the Pow Wow was the manner in which young people learned about their culture.
Now, it is a way for the 10,000 festival attendees to listen to addresses by the First Nation Elders, the most venerated Aboriginal figures in Canada, and to learn their methods of healing, their approach to spirituality, and how their indigenous beliefs fit within the modern world. The Canadian Aboriginal Music Award ceremony also takes place at this festival, with a number of the best acts performing. The Aboriginal Arts Conference showcases Aboriginal works and offers workshops. The Market Area features authentic Aboriginal arts, crafts, and food.
