ABOUT TORONTO
Celebrating both historical landmarks and architectural innovations, Doors Open Toronto invites citizens and visitors to explore the city's treasure trove of buildings and communal spaces. During the two-day, citywide festival, the nearly 150 participating sites open their doors to the public free of charge, and many of the stops offer guided tours, exhibits, and hands-on, kid-friendly activities.
Some Doors Open Toronto highlights include: downtown's City Hall, with its east tower observation deck and green roof garden; the tall ship Empire Sandy in the Harbourfront area; the University of Toronto's Thomas Fisher Library with its six stories of rare books; and the elegant architecture of the historic Union Station. The festival also features many environmentally engineered "green" buildings located throughout the greater Toronto area such as the green roof and recycled materials of the Toronto Botanical Gardens (in Eglinton, north of Toronto); the four-story living plant wall at the University of Guelph-Humber (in Malton, northwest of Toronto); and the eco-spiritual design by architect Roberto Chiotti at St. Gabriel's Passionist Church (in North York, north of Toronto).
