ABOUT TORONTO
It's been said that every great festival begins with a parade, and the bigger the parade, the greater the festival. If that bit of folk wisdom is true, you can't go wrong with the three-day West Village Ukrainian Festival, now in its eleventh year and with a tally of over 1,000 participants in the 2006 parade. The events change every year, but there are typically such activities as face painting and petting zoos for children, and a beer garden for the adults. The entertainment is usually an intercultural blend of performers from the Ukraine, Canada, and the United States, with vendors selling souvenirs and Ukrainian food.
For 2007, the festival's theme is Ukrainian weddings. Visitors are invited to a Ukrainian wedding beginning with the actual ceremony via Sirius Satellite Radio, and ending with a display of the traditional embroidered cloths and a demonstration of Ukrainian-Canadian cooking.
