Just a quick glance at Toronto's beautiful, sprawling skyline reveals the city's rich architectural history. With dozens of landmark buildings, Toronto offers plenty to see and explore.
The most prominent and immediately recognizable building on the Toronto skyline is the CN Tower. Located in the city's Entertainment District, and rising an impressive 1,815 feet into the air, it is the tallest free-standing structure in the world, twice as tall as Toronto's next tallest building. Visitors can take an elevator up to the observation platform to experience the building's dizzying heights for themselves. Adjacent to the CN Tower is the Rogers Centre, home of the Toronto Blue Jays and an architectural marvel esteemed for its retracting roof.
Modern buildings aren't the only attraction, however. Toronto has a huge wealth of older, historic buildings as well. In the Downtown West section of the city is Old City Hall, which was once among the tallest buildings in Toronto and features a beautiful, intricate Romanesque design. A few blocks away, the Gooderham "Flatiron" Building resembles a castle with its stately iron turrets and narrow design. Perhaps the most notable historical building in the area is Casa Loma, a majestic, medieval-style castle that once belonged to Toronto financier Sir Henry Pellant.
